Santa Maybe?

Ranking “Santa Baby” covers by popular artists
Santa Maybe?

Every kid knows Santa. He’s the old, chubby, bearded guy you’ll only see once a year in your local mall. The description might not sound too appealing, but he brings you gifts, and who doesn’t love a few gifts?

Now take that jolly old man, and tell him you want his last name with “one little thing, a ring.” Enter the song known as “Santa Baby.” This song is a Christmastime staple, with many artists of all different genres singing their own take of the song, so let’s rank em’.

Now this is a ranking of the covers, because you can’t beat the OG. “Santa Baby” By Eartha Kitt, love her.

#7, “Santa Baby” by Alicia Keys 2/10

  • She begins with a whispered monologue with a mellow tune in the background, it’s kind of off-putting.
  • The background music is unsettling, and at some parts of the song, she starts sounding like she’s a speaker with water damage
  • Her voice is good, the rest of the music really isn’t.
  • Christmas horror?
  • I am unsettled.

#6, “Santa Baby” by Arianna Grande 3/10

  • The song starts out immediately with jingle bells, giving a Christmas feel, green flag
  • Starts out as a modern-day pop song, red flag.
  • Her sound effects and vocal moments are kind of random
  • Her voice is nice, and it has the potential, it’s just not there — it’s giving the bad Netflix Hallmark movies intro songs.

#5 “Santa Baby” by Taylor Swift 4/10

  • Baby Taylor (I love baby Taylor’s fake country accent)
  • Makes Christmas country — I don’t know how I feel about that though
  • Doesn’t sound much like Christmas, look out the bells and Christmas sounds
  • It’s ok, it’s just not very Christmas
  • Also Taylor Swift, her and the Newspaper don’t mix.

#4 “Santa Baby” by Madonna 5/10

  • The start is nice, very Christmas-core
  • It’s Madonna’s voice, so it’s iconic for that already
  • I feel like this is one of the versions that first comes to mind when you think about Santa Baby
  • Very similar to the original
  • I’m very neutral on this version, it really depends on how much you do or don’t like her voice.

#3 “Santa Baby” by Gwen Stefani 7/10

  • I love Gwen Stefani
  • Similar feel as the original
  • The background vocals are nice, they make me happy.
  • Keeps the energy of “Yes Santa I’ll be your Mrs” but still stays away from the creepiness of it

#2 “Santa Baby” by Kelly Clarkson 9/10

  • OK the trumpet sounds? Omg
  • This version is just gorgeous
  • Doing what Arianna and Tay Tay tried to do, but so much better
  • Again, the trumpets are so gorg
  • Jingle bells!!!
  • I just really like how it sounds.

Honorable Mention: “Santa Baby” by Rupaul

  • I have no words, and found out this existed recently
  • Flabbergasted.
  • I don’t really know what I was expecting, and it is definitely something
  • I couldn’t rank it, it’s just so different from all the other Santa Babys
  • I have no words

#1 “Santa Baby” by Michael Buble

  • This might be a little biased because I love Michael Buble more than literally anything
  • He changes the song in a nice way, only changing the lyrics. When all the other artists have attempted changing words, it really hasn’t been done too well.
  • He references Santa as “Santa buddy” instead of baby, talking to Santa like he’s a good friend with a lot of money
  • I just love Michael Buble’s voice
