Living in the Moment
Sophomores use film cameras to capture memories
As teenagers, we’re constantly surrounded by social media and our phones. Devices distract us from what is going on around us. Depending on the friend group I’m with, we either sit in a circle on our phones, or we’re out taking pictures while having a blast. Sophomores Mady Conner and Kirsten Conn use disposable cameras to document their high school experience. Conn became aware of film due to her family using it when she was young.
“I was first introduced to disposable cameras at a young age by my grandparents. They loved using them so now I use them every now and then,” Conn said.
Conner started using disposable cameras after watching her friends use them.
“A lot of people around me were using them so I decided to just try them out and I immediately fell in love with using them,” Conner said. “They’re just so fun and honestly super easy to use.”
While with friends, Conner enjoys using film cameras.
“I like to take pictures of me and my friends and whatever we’re doing at the moment,” conner said. “I don’t really plan out taking pictures unless there’s an event like homecoming or sweetheart, then I’ll get a disposable camera and take pictures for that.”
Conn feels that using disposable cameras helps her to be aware of her surroundings and off her phone while hanging out with friends and family.
“I like the feel of disposable cameras,” she said. “It’s different and makes taking pictures a lot more memorable.”
