The BV Choir participants dragged themselves out of bed at 7:00am on February 10 to participate in the Harrisonville Show Choir Invitational against eighteen other schools from Kansas and Missouri. Junior Meika Ellibee is a part of the Chamber Singers (varsity choir), who came home with a Grand Champion trophy.
“We got first place in our division, we won best vocals, crew, show design, costumes, choreography, and band.” Ellibee said.
Despite winning the competition, the best part of the experience for Ellibee was when JV made it to finals and placed sixth.
“We were all excited for JV,” Ellibee said. “In the second competition they did really good, and usually a prep choir never makes it to finals.”
The next step for the victors is to perform in Webb City, Missouri. In March, they will move on to nationals in Orlando, Florida, where they perform at Disney World. They are likely to win a few categories there.
“Even though we might not win, we have a strong chance of placing high. As Sara Schumacher says, ‘you perform for me, I perform for you.'” Ellibee said.
