With the end of the current school year rapidly approaching, PSMS eighth-graders Maylee Smith, Carson Harrison, and Allison Ayres are ready to face their freshman year as BV Tigers. High school means more difficult classes and an all-new environment, but they all maintain positive mindsets.
“I am scared to meet new people, but I think it will be good to learn and see new perspectives and get to make new friends,” Ayres said.
Fortunately, according to the girls, their middle school teachers have done a good job teaching them the skills necessary for high school.
“We have done so much preparation in middle school to get us ready,” Smith said.
Leaving middle school for Smith means a new level of care must be put into work to maintain a GPA and prepare for the future, which is a sentiment shared amongst the girls.
“I will miss not having to worry about things counting towards college,” Harrison said.
Beyond the gradebook, leaving middle school means leaving a comfortable and familiar social setting.
“I am going to miss every 8th grade first hour with Mr. Robbins,” Ayres said. “And I’ll miss lunch because I like that everyone has the same lunch, and we get to talk about our days and the drama.”
Ultimately, however, high school is something to look forward to, with Harrison looking to join soccer and tennis teams.
“I’m excited about all of the sports and clubs that you can join and be a part of,” Smith said.
Beyond extracurricular activities, there is just more variety in BV classes and academics.
“For high school, I am excited about the new experiences that I get to participate in and the different classes that I can take,” Ayres said. “There are a lot of different electives that aren’t available for us at the middle school.”
