Over Feb. 21-22, BV Business went to State BPA with the largest team BV has ever brought to nationals and brought home BV’s 6th straight State title. Leadership, organization, personal skills — these BV business skills senior Simrun Kaberwal knows well.
“BPA is a business organization for young students, and there’s a lot of different events that you can compete in,” Kaberwal said. “You can do anything from financials, learning about financial accounting or your Excel application to health research presentations. There’s truly an event for everyone.”
Kaberwal thinks any future career can benefit from involvement in BV business. “It really hones in on what you know — those 21st century skills you probably need in the future — regardless of what your career might be.” she said.
Multiple BPA chapters, BV business being one, all head to state competitions.
“We did that in Wichita, Kansas, to ultimately see where we all place at the state level, and then go on to the national level,” she said.
BV business seems to be a large commitment but it’s one that has helped Kaberwal in the long run.
“It has definitely impacted my high school experience for the better. I’ve gained a lot of real world skills that I would not have otherwise.” she said. “For example, BV business taught me how to make a resume, and with that resume, I was able to get my first job.”
Overall, BV business has also given Kaberwal a community.
“Meeting all the new people I would probably never have interacted with that I’m closest friends with right now — it’s all because of BV business.”
Because of Kaberwal’s commitment and involvement to BPA, she was awarded one of two senior scholarships for outstanding involvement.
“BPA really emphasizes community service and how you are able to serve others,” she said. “They have this program called the torch awards where you log all the activities you’ve done.”
Once you meet a certain threshold for community service hours, members could be considered a statesman or ambassador.
“Ultimately, there’s a little essay that I wrote for them on how BPA helped your high school,” she said. “A big part of the application is them trying to learn what you’ve done for your community.”
