Journalism students place at state, JEMKC awards

On Saturday May 1, members of the BV Newspaper and Yearbook staffs participated in the state journalism contest in Emporia.

 Students who placed from BV were:

 Sarah Clancey– Third place, Yearbook Copy Writing

Gretchen Hess– Honorable mention, Yearbook Sports Writing 

Allison Kohn– Third place, News Writing

Jen Kranjec– Third place, Yearbook Layout

Kirsten and Anneliese Krull– Honorable mention, Video News Package

Emma Mosier– Honorable mention, Editorial Cartoons

Ten journalism students received Journalism Educators of Metropolitan Kansas City awards April 28. The Tiger Print took second place overall in Newspaper Sweepstakes. The following students won JEMKC awards: 

Senior Allison Kohn took second place in Newspaper Regular Column Writing, Newspaper Editorial Writing, Newspaper Feature Story and received Honorable Mention in Newspaper News Informative Feature.

Senior Stephanie Roche took second place in Newspaper Overall Design.

Senior Sarah Clancey took first in Yearbook Sports Section Design.

Senior Emma Mosier took second and Honorable mention in Newspaper Editorial Cartoon.

Senior Jackie Lippert took Honorable Mention in Newspaper Sports Photography.

Senior AJ Barbosa took Honorable Mention in Newspaper Sports Feature Writing.

Junior Gretchen Hess and Clancey took third in Yearbook Theme Presentation.

Sophomore Maegan Kabel took first in Newspaper Feature Photography and Honorable Mention in Newspaper Feature Story. 

Sophomore Lauren Reardon took third in Yearbook Sports Section Design.

Sophomore Megan Kuharich took third in Yearbook Best Overall Coverage in a single spread.
