Book drive to honor teachers, help kids

KAY Club is sponsoring a book drive to donate new or gently used books to Children’s Mercy Hospital throughout the week of Nov. 7.
Students can earn community service hours by participating in the book drive. The students earn one hour of community service for every two books donated and can earn a maximum of three hours.
The students who bring in books can choose a teacher to donate the book in the name of.
“We are doing it for teacher appreciation, so that we can honor the teachers and help kids at the same time,” KAY Club President junior Stephanie Shull said.
Shull said the book drive has collected quite a few books so far.
“Every year, KAY Club tries to do different types of drives,” Shull said. “We just came up with the idea of doing a book drive. We thought it would be a good, easy activity for the fall and winter.”
Students who still want to donate can bring their books to lunch or bring them to Mrs. Asquith’s room in mobile 7.
