The Kansas City Star named junior Austin Averkamp and sophomore Chris Hearl to the First All-Metro Boys Swim and Dive Team.
Averkamp received first team honors in the 50 freestyle and Hearl in the 100 butterfly.
“It was kind of a big deal,” Averkamp said. “I didn’t expect it. I heard about it this morning, but I thought some other team would get it.”
The swim and dive team took first place this year at the 5A State meet Feb. 18-19.
“I had a great improvement in my times,” Averkamp said. “I always look for better, but I will take it. [Winning state] felt great. I couldn’t believe we won until the trophy was in our hands.”
