One game away from making history. The BV boys soccer team played Liberal High School for the State Title on Nov. 6.
The first half was scoreless. The Tigers had a few opportunities but couldn’t find the back of the net.
Ten minutes into the second half, the Liberal High Redskins scored a goal. Despite the fact that we were losing 1-0, the crowd kept a positive attitude, cheering “Lets go Tigers!” to keep the team confident.
With 20 minutes left in the game, the Redskins scored another goal, bringing the score to 2-0.
Cole McCubbin scored a goal around 30 yards out with 13 minutes left and the score became 2-1.
Just when the Tigers thought they could get right back in the game, the Redskins scored a goal 15 seconds later.
The Tigers fought until the final whistle but ended up losing 3-1.
After a game consisting of yellow cards, a red card, and an overall hard-fought battle, BV was awarded with the 2011 KS 5A State Runner-Up trophy.
