At the beginning of this week, former assistant volleyball coach Dave Johnson was announced to be BV’s new head volleyball coach.
This will be his first time being a head volleyball coach for a high school team. Outside of highschool volleyball, he coaches for the KC Power volleyball team.
Johnson said he has high expectations for the upcoming high school volleyball season.
“I’m excited to see how far we can go,” he said. “We’ve got a very talented class coming in and we have some good leadership coming back so I think we will have a very good season.”
Johnson said since many of the girls play club volleyball they will come into the season with volleyball knowledge.
“I’m excited to see what some of the freshmen are like,” he said. “We’ve had a lot of kids who play club ball so we will have some girls with some volleyball knowledge and that will really help when high school season starts. To have those kind of reps playing club for seven months and then starting highschool, it will be very beneficial.”
Johnson said he hopes the season will start off well.
“I think the girls are hungry to play and are ready to prove that they can win,” he said. “I think that’s going to show right off the bat. We’re going to do some training over the summer so they are going to be ready to go.”
