Yesterday, August 21 was Fall Sports Night. Football, boys’ soccer, volleyball and cross country held inter-squad scrimmages that were open to the public.
“It’s something we’ve always done,” Athletic Director Matt Ortman said. “The teams are opening up their season this week or next week, and they get more game experience before opening up.”
While the other sports seasons haven’t started yet, the girls’ tennis team hosted its first match against St. Thomas Aquinas, and won. Fall is the only athletic season that includes scrimmages in its sports night.
“In winter, football is still going on and teams aren’t set,” Ortman said. “In the spring, the weather doesn’t cooperate, and all the sports are outside.”
Ortman said fall sports night gives the community an opportunity to see everybody in action.
“It’s a fun night to get out and watch everybody play,” he said.
