Joker Movie Smashes Box-Office

Joker took the box office by storm this past weekend with three-time Academy Award nominated Joaquin Phoenix portraying the titular Crown Prince of Crime.

Joker grossed about $93.5 million in the United States and $234 million world wide, breaking the previous record for October domestic opening set by Venom in 2018 with $80.25 million. This showing is particularly impressive considering the R-rating.

Additionally, the movie has been surrounded by controversy due to claims that the Joker would represent a hero for Incels and inspire violence. These concerns grew so much that the film was not shown at a theater in Aurora, Colorado, where a mass shooting occurred at a screening of the Dark Knight Rises in 2012. However, no shootings have occured in any theaters showing the movie, nor have any occurred with connection to the movie.

The film is currently certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a critics score of 69% and an audience score of 90%.
