“I was chosen as captain because I showed leadership, maturity and responsibility.”

“My goal as a captain is to help the team grow and bond together and take that onto the dance floor.”

How do you help your team prepare?
“Whenever I play, I get really stressed out, and I tense up — which changes everything about your technique. So, it’s important to let everybody know to relax and step into the competitive space when it’s game time.”

“We need everybody to know everyone: names, personality and the way they are.”

Why were you chosen to be a captain?
“One of the main qualities that led me to becoming a captain is my ability to be super talkative. I’ve been told I’m easy-going and easy to talk to and get along with.”
What are the key proponents to make a strong team bond?
“A sense of communication, being OK asking questions, and accepting constructive criticism. Although it’s an individual sport, we’re [still] trying to win as a team.”

What’s a highlight of being a captain?
“There’s so much that’s good about being a captain. I like getting to know everyone on the team. [Being] seen as a leader is really cool. Part of it is just being the person who knows everyone, so I can bring everyone together a little more.”
What are your goals for this year as a captain?
“I definitely want to help our team — especially our girls’ team — to qualify for State this year. Cross country is a very individual sport, you would think; but, we need all seven of our girls to score, and to do that, we all need to have a good bond.”

“The respect you get and the people coming to you for support. Another highlight would be leading the team and attending captains’ meetings before every match.”

“We have been with the team the longest, and we have a loud voice on the court and care deeply about our teammates.”

How do you help your team prepare?
“We make sure to practice a lot and give ourselves enough time to work it out. With cheer, it’s a lot of work-shopping and getting everything right, so we want to make sure we have our routines down, and we’re coming into competitions with confidence.”

“Communication is the biggest one. Having everybody on the same page and knowing what they’re supposed to do is really important.”

“I hope to make it to State and create more connections with my teammates.”

“I talk to them about staying calm and focused and make sure everyone is not too nervous before tournaments.”

“Being able to direct the team. Holding people accountable — it’s always a good thing — and being able to talk to the refs.”

“A big goal is to stop messing around, holding each other to a more disciplined action [and] focus more on winning more games and on learning instead of just having fun.”

“I’m more of a quiet leader — I’m not going to be in your face about something. I try to be understanding [of] the situation that someone might be in.”

“It’s the opportunity to have an impact on the freshmen and sophomores and be able to teach them new things and tricks.”
