Volleyball team goes undefeated in season opener

The varsity volleyball team won both their season openers at Olathe East against Topeka-Seaman and Olathe East.
The team defeated Topeka-Seaman easily with scores of 25-9 and 25-22.
The Tigers then won an unconvincing first game against Olathe East, 25-21, with the Hawks threatening the lead at every chance.
After the switch, the Tigers dug themselves a hole early, down 8-2.
They then proceeded to win 9 of the next 12 points to tie the game at 11.
Olathe East capitalized on poor passing for the rest of the game and won 25-16 to send the match to its third game.
“Our passing was really inconsistent,” coach Jessica Palmer said. “Meghan Mahoney, who is usually one of our best passers, was off and it translated to the rest of the team. So that was the main focus of out third game.”
It paid off as the Tigers took up to 11-point leads as they coasted to a 25-18 victory.
“Great start to the season, lots of drive,” Palmer said. “We beat number four in 5A which is possibly where we’re going, so signs of good things to come.”
