The Tigers came out victorious in their Friday night football match-up by a final score of 28-13. It was the Tigers’ toughest competition of the season thus far against league rival and defending 4A state champions Bishop Miege, but BV managed to advance to 4-0.
After both teams punted on their opening possession, the Stags moved the ball down the field to the BV 13 yard line where BV stopped them on a fourth and two to get the ball back.
The defensive stop ignited, the Tigers offense drove down the field and scored a touchdown on a 1 yard run by senior Hayden Murray, after a 36 yard reception by senior Jacob Mcdermott.
The Stags went three and out on the next possession and the punt was returned by senior Bryant Reber to the Bishop Miege 36 yard line, a 5 yard net punt.
Junior Kyle Zimmerman connected with senior Paul Debey on a touchdown pass to give BV a 14-0 lead.
In the second quarter Keenan Savage put Bishop Miege right back in the game with a 50 yard touchdown run.
The Tigers answered with a long drive that milked the clock. They leaned heavily on their running game and junior Justin Fulks delivered on consecutive carries for first downs followed by a 22 yard touchdown run.
“Our coaches kept us in the right mind and kept us composed,” Fulks said.
Bv took the 21-7 lead into the half.
The Tiger defense stopped a Bishop Miege drive into BV territory with an interception by senior Eric Skaggs.
Zimmerman completed a 40 yard pass to Debey on the following drive. BV capped of the drive with Fulks’ second touchdown run of the night.
Bishop Miege did not score again until under a minute to play in the fourth quarter on a 22 yard touchdown pass to Tre Parmalee with the game already out of reach.
After a failed two-point conversion by the Stags, BV recovered the onside kick.
The Tigers kneeled the ball to run out the clock ending the game with the final score 28-13.
