The Blue Valley Tigers earned another victory, 39 – 7, against the Blue Valley North Mustangs on Friday night to remain undefeated and move to 5-0 in the football season.
“It’s always good to get a win, but we made a lot of mistakes and we need to learn from them,” senior Hayden Murray said.
Junior quarterback Kyle Zimmerman scored three touchdowns on the night including two passing and one rushing.
The Mustangs had a chance to take advantage of an early mistake after recovering a Tiger fumble by junior Matt Floyd. However, the Tigers’ defense forced a punt after a BV sack on third down by senior T.J. Nee.
BV’s offense sputtered and went three and out after getting possession in good field position and this time BVN did not waste their opportunity but scored on a 63-yard touchdown reception by Michael Widrig but the first score of the night was the last for the Mustangs.
The Tigers responded on their next drive with key carries by junior Justin Fulks capped off by a 14-yard touchdown connection from Zimmerman to senior Jacob Mcdermott. Nevetheless, they trailed 6 – 7 after a failed extra point attempt.
BV struck again after a third down conversion on a reception by Senior Paul Debey followed by Zimmerman’s second touchdown pass of the night, this one with Debey on the receiving end. The Tigers’ two-point attempt failed but they gained a 12 – 7 lead.
BV’s third straight unanswered touchdown came on a 9-yard quarterback keeper by Zimmerman. The Tigers moved ahead 18 – 7 and took that lead into halftime.
A 4-yard touchdown carry by Murray on BV’s first second half possesion put the Tigers up 24 – 7. BV scored twice more on the third quarter following a BVN three and out, on a 23-yard carry by Fulks and a 32 yard run by Floyd. BV ended the third quarter up 39 – 7, the final score, after a scoreless fourth quarter.
