The BV cross country team took 8th place at the state meet at Rim Rock Farm on Saturday.
Girls runners included sophomores Sophie Best and Rachel Campbell, and juniors Evelyn Davis, Mackenzie Gorthy, Miranda Loats, Becca McDonald and Bailey Swimmer. The boys team consisted of sophomore John Wiederholt, juniors Jake Kennedy, Ben Strickland and Brian Witt, and seniors Ben Gaede, Skyler Trieu and Danny Willis.
Swimmer (32nd place with a 4K time of 17:04) and Gaede (14th place with a 5K time of 17:12) placed as BV’s top runners.
Loats said the team didn’t quite live up to their own expectations.
“We did okay,” she said. “We kind of hope we would have done better, but we still did good. It was a really good season overall. We really came together and learned to run as a pack.”
Bishop Carroll Catholic High School won the meet to become the 2010 5A state champions.
