Football coach Eric Driskell is a finalist for the Chiefs High School Football Coach of the Year. Driskell is one of only eight finalists including:
Marvin Diener – Gardener Edgerton
Jeff Meyers – Olathe East
Todd Wassman – Sumner Academy
Steve Hopkins – Basehor-Lindwood
Pete Flood – Olathe North
Chip Sherman – Shawnee Mission East
Bill Pekarek – Lansing
Driskell said the most important part of winning the award is a $1,000 grant given to the coach’s school.
Additionally, the winning coach and his team receive a behind-the-scenes tour of Arrowhead Stadium and an opportunity to meet Chiefs players from the past and present.
Driskell, a first-year head coach, credits this recognition to his team’s hard work.
“It is a direct result of our kids’ success and has very little to do with me,” he said. “I don’t know how much I’ve done, I just try to keep us headed in the right direction.”
Senior Austin Collier said Driskell is very deserving of this award.
“I think he is a really good coach and does everything possible to help us win,” Collier said.
