BV defeated Topeka Seaman 45 – 14 to become 5A sectional champions Friday night.
BV took the early lead on a 1-yard touchdown carry by senior Hayden Murray.
On the Tigers’ next possession, junior Justin Fulks scored his first of four rushing touchdowns on the night. BV ended the first quarter with a 12 – 0 lead.
Fulks scored again after a Vikings punt putting BV up 19 – 0.
Seaman managed to move the ball into BV territory on their next possession, but senior Kevin Foote intercepted a pass and returned it 71 yards to the 26 yardline. Fulks finished off the drive with another touchdown run and would add one more before the half to give BV a 32 – 0 lead.
In the second half, BV’s defense did not let up as senior Eric Skaggs recovered a fumble and returned it 69 yards for a touchdown. The BV defense forced another turnover on the next possession with an interception by senior T.J. Nee.
BV scored again to take a 45 – 0 lead with a punt returned for a touchdown by senior Bryant Reber to end the third quarter.
The Topeka Seaman offense got on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter with two late touchdowns to make the final score 45 – 14.
The Tigers advance to sub-state next week and will play at home against EKL champion Gardner Edgerton in the 5A state semifinal game. The Tigers gave the undefeated Trailblazers their third closest contest to date when they met in Gardner for the last game of the regular season.
