The swim and dive team took first place at the 5A State meet last weekend, Feb. 18-19. The team beat the second place finisher by 145 points. First-place finishers at the meet were seniors Cameron Gallet, Nick Sobscynski, Matt Olsen and Adam Chinery, junior Austin Avercamp and sophomores Chris Hearl and Vaughn Ericson.
Hearl said he was pleased with the team’s overall performance, as well as reaching the All-American times he strove for.
“I had a lot of goals set for this year,” he said. “[All-American] is not one of those things I set a goal for, but when I achieved it, it was really nice to have.”
Hearl said the team prepared extensively in advance and felt confident during the State meet.
“It just shows how much hard work we put in and how much we deserved it,” he said. “We worked harder than anyone.”
