Tigers win on senior night

BV defeated BV West friday night in the boys basketball game 48 – 41.
BV’s six seniors took to their home floor for their final time in a regular season game. For senior night Coach Hansen went with an all senior starting lineup. The players used a coin flip to decide which seniors would start.
Senior Hayden Murray led the way with 17 points for the Tigers. BV’s six seniors combined for 34 of the Tigers 48 points.
The game’s raucous atmosphere did little to ignite a scoring frenzy early on as the Jaguars controlled the ball for a full minute on the opening possession but came away with no points.
The Tigers went on a 7 – 0 run to take control early on 9 – 4 but BV West closed the gap and tied the game at 9 at the end of the first quarter.
The Tigers began the second quarter with an 8 – 2 run aided by senior Brian Grant hitting on 4 for 4 from the line, the Tigers were 16 for 19 on the night from the stripe.
However the Jaguars again responded and scored 7 straight to end the half with an 18 – 17 lead.
BV West began the second half much the same as the first with a 45 second possession that once again resulted in no points.
The Tigers began the half with a 7 – 2 push to take a 24 – 20 lead.
BV West hit three consecutive free throws to draw within 1 point.
But BV answered on the next posseion with junior Jack Porter hitting a three to.
The Tigers took a 36 – 31 lead into the fourth quarter.
A three pointer from the Jaguars brought the game back to even at a 36 – 36 tie.
Murray drove to the basket and gave the Tigers a 40 – 37 lead with two minutes to play.
Murray scored again off of an assist from senior Paul Debey with a minute and a half remaining to extend the Tigers lead to 5.
Debey sealed the deal with two from the line giving BV a 44 – 38 lead with 50 seconds to play.
The Tigers went on to win by a final score of 48 – 41.
“I’m really glad we won, especially on senior night.” senior Steven Stinson said. “Now we’re looking forward to the next step.”
