The girls basketball team took second place in the 5A State tournament today, with a loss of 48-37 against St. Thomas Aquinas.
Point guard senior Aerial Smith said BV went into the game feeling both excited and nervous.
“We were a little jittery,” she said. “But that’s just how it is in a State championship.”
By halftime, Aquinas led with a score of 23-20.

“We knew we needed to come out the second half and play our hearts out,” Smith said. “We needed to leave it all on the floor.”
With two minutes to go in the fourth period, Aquinas had widened the gap between the teams, with a score of 39-32.

Smith said the team felt disappointed to see the tournament end in a loss after such a strong season.
“We felt really sad that it was over,” she said. “We played really well together. We had a chemistry I don’t think any other teams have had.”
BV advanced to the championship game by beating McPherson High School with a score of 56-52. The game was an upset, with BV ranked third and McPherson ranked second.
