Together We Will Win.
Tuesday night, BV hosted several events that made up Cancer Awareness Night and Senior Night for the girls and boys basketball teams.
The evening began with the girls Varsity basketball game against the Mustangs of Blue Valley North.
The Lady Tigers battled the entire game and pulled out a 38-33 win, which allowed them to clench the EKL Championship.
Senior Night festivities followed the girls game, and eight seniors were recognized: Managers Anna Kerkhoff and Hannah Skidmore, boys varsity players Brady Buescher, Jack Porter and John Stoothoff, and girls varsity players Natalie Gloor, Mackenzie Johnson and Taylor Leathers.
The boys varsity basketball team kicked off their game against the Mustangs soon after these events. After much back-and-forth action, the Tigers trailed 26-25 at halftime.
But at halftime, a hush fell over the crowd as Andy Unrein recognized and inducted late swimming and football coach Greg House into the BVHS Hall of Fame.
Urein spoke of House’s “competitive legacy that will quite likely never be matched,” and reminded the audience of House’s motto to “train like warriors, love like family, compete like champions, and begin with the end in mind.”
After this moving presentation, the boys jumped back into action. BV came out with a 45-44 win, after a shot by junior Charlie Marquardt with nine seconds left that put the Tigers ahead by that one needed point.
The student section, decked out in tie-dye, stormed the court with no hesitation, overjoyed by the win.
Together They Won.
