On Friday, Oct. 19, the varsity football team faced off with the Pittsburg High School Purple Dragons.
The game started off with an early interception by senior Ryan McNerlin, but the Tigers were prevented from earning a touchdown. A few minutes later, McNerlin scored a touchdown on a running play, which brought the score to 7-0.
With around five minutes left in the first quarter, the Tigers blocked a punt and took over the ball on the 16 yard line. Junior Chance Nelson then ran the ball in for a touchdown.
With only 1:50 left in the first quarter, McNerlin earned another touchdown. The score at the end of the first quarter was 21-0.
In the second quarter, McNerlin scored another touchdown. With no more touchdowns in the second quarter, the score at halftime was 27-0.
On the first play in the second half, McNerlin ran down the field for a 66-yard touchdown.
With ten minutes left in the third quarter, senior Josh Chalker got an interception. Junior Mikey Henson ran down to the four yard line and, due to a flag, the Tigers got the ball on the two. Nelson ran it in from there for a Tiger touchdown with 9:53 left in the third quarter. This brought the score to 41-0.
With around five minutes left in the third quarter, junior Tristan Perkins scored a touchdown bringing the score to 48-0.
With only 38 seconds left in the third quarter, Nelson made a 93 yard run for the final touchdown of the game.
In the fourth quarter, junior Cale Reber had an interception. But, with only ten seconds left in the game, the Tigers weren’t able to score off of it.
The final score was 55-0.
