Oct. 10 Football Game Prediction: Blue Valley vs. Aquinas

Blue Valley Tigers (4-1) vs. Saint Thomas Aquinas Saints (4-1) (Away game) Friday, Oct. 10, 2014 at 7 p.m.   Blue Valley: The Tigers come into tonight fresh off of a 35-7 romp over the helpless Mustangs of Blue Valley North, whose losing streak has now run to 19 games. The Tigers kept possession for nearly two-thirds of the game and pounded the ball on the ground over and over again, running only 10 pass plays. Running back sophomore Will Evans ran for 141 yards and a touchdown, while quarterback junior Colton McCumber also threw for two scores. The defense smothered the Mustang offense, allowing less than 200 yards, and giving up the only score of the game with less than two minutes remaining. The Tigers return to action tonight looking for an important win in the EKL standings.   Saint Thomas Aquinas: After initially falling behind to the winless Trailblazers of Gardner-Edgerton, Aquinas responded with a fury, rattling off 34 unanswered points en route to a 34-21 victory. This moved the Saints to 4-1 on the season, setting up a massive EKL showdown tonight. Running back junior Jacob Leikam and quarterback junior Karter Odermann each scored two touchdowns in the victory. The Saints were tested by the Trailblazers fourth-quarter comeback attempt but held their lines to secure a comfortable victory. BV will win if: The defense disrupts the rhythm of the Saints offense. Last week, Aquinas got into a groove and scored five consecutive touchdowns, all of which turned out to be vital in staving off a late Gardner comeback charge. The “darkside” defense has been reliable all season, and that trend must continue tonight.   Player to Watch BV: Sophomore Will Evans — Running Back Since he first stepped into the running back spot due to an injury to running back junior A.J Totta, Evans has been a vital part of the Tiger offense with two  games of over-100 yards rushing. The Saints defense will be in for an adventure tonight.   Last Matchup — It was a matchup in name only. The Tigers waltzed all over a lowly Saints team by a score of 35-3. It was a field day on both sides of the ball, and the Saints continued their fall to a miserable 3-7 record.   Prediction — If the last two weeks are any indication, the Tigers have completely forgotten about the fiasco at Bishop Miege, having turned in two consecutive dominant performances. Blue Valley outscored BV Southwest and BV North by a combined score of 80-14, and a rivalry game with Aquinas is a great opportunity to continue the momentum. The Saints may see some success throwing the ball, but the defense of Blue Valley and a dominant ground game will see a scoreboard in favor of the Tigers. BV: 35 Saint Thomas Aquinas: 14
