It’s your senior year. You have been playing golf since the age of 7. It’s your last chance to win a State Championship before graduating. This is exactly the case for two seniors on the Blue Valley girls golf team this year.
Seniors Madison Hoy and Emma Hardeman are the captains of the golf team this year. Over their high school career, they have seen many changes on the golf team. While their focus is on going to State this year, Hoy and Hardeman said they enjoy having fun at tournaments.
“My favorite tournament would probably be the fun tournament at [Sykes Lady Overland Park Golf Course] when we get to play with partners,” Hardeman said.
Having fun is a way for the girls to relax when thinking about how the team will have to perform to get to the State Championship tournament this year. Hardeman said that she believes that the team can return to the State Championship this year.
“We have the same varsity team as last year, and no one graduated,” Hardeman said. “We have all been practicing over the summer, and we all have gotten a lot better.”
Hoy said the team goal is to return to the State Championship this year, but there is also a focus on personal goals.
“[My goal is] to consistently shoot in the 80s because that was my goal last year and it is still my goal for this year,” Hoy said.
While the girls are practicing out on the range, putting greens and course, their overall focus is always on State.
“[Our team goal is] to go to State again, and place either second or first at Regionals,” Hoy said.
