The Tigers fell to a crushing defeat to the Trailblazers of Gardner-Edgerton after a heroic comeback, 73-68. The Tigers outscored Gardner 45-30 in the second half, but the first half dug the Tigers in too deep of a hole. It was a mirror image of the blowout loss to St. Thomas Aquinas with the Tigers trailing at halftime by the score of 42-23. The Trailblazers could not miss, and the Tigers found a lid on the bucket. But instead of continuing to struggle, the offense came alive in the second half, going on a series of runs to trim the deficit. After a Trailblazers’ turnover with just over 30 seconds left, the BV trailed by four and needed a quick score. However, the Gardner defense drew the offensive foul and ran out the clock to secure a win. The Tigers fell to 8-9 overall and 4-7 in the EKL while the Trailblazers improved to 10-8.

A look at Miege:

The Stags have fielded another strong team this season, carrying a record of 13-3 into the game, 9-2 in the EKL. Miege has won three of its last four, most recently a 64-52 win over BV Southwest. Miege is led by 6’7” center senior Jacob Meurer and 5’9” guard senior Kevin Kellerman, two of the largest players in the EKL. When BV and Miege met at Miege Jan. 13, the Tigers were simply swallowed up defensively by the larger Stags and lost 52-38. After the Tiger offense came alive in the second half last game, a more offensive-oriented battle may be in store for the large Friday crowd.

Will Bol Bol See the Floor?

Perhaps the most intriguing storyline heading into tipoff is the possibility that center freshman Bol Bol may make an appearance in tonight’s game. Bol Bol, a towering 6’10” Stags player, is the son of former NBA Star Manute Bol. After previously attending BV Northwest, it was discovered that he did not reside within the district, and a transfer to Bishop Miege was arranged. Bol Bol played a handful of JV games before becoming eligible for Varsity but has yet to see the floor. If he is inserted into the game tonight, he will be the tallest player the Tigers have had to defend all season. An interior defensive battle may become the most significant matchup during the game.
