Out With The Old in With The New
New color guard coach changes this things up for BV
Sonya Putnam is the new coach for the color guard. The team practices three to four days a week for about 10 hours throughout the week.
Junior Maddy Ebling said everybody is working a lot harder now that color guard has Putnam as their new coach.
“[Putnam] is good at teaching drill and flag basics,” new member and sophomore Kelly Long said. “I’ve learned how to do flag properly.”
Ebling said she likes Putnam’s choreography and the way she matches it to the specific music.
“[The dance team] has done a lot more choreography and we’re a lot more productive[than last year]”, Ebling said.
Ebling said she likes Putnam’s choreography and the way she matches it to the specific music.
“From a person’s view who was watching, it has gotten a lot better from last year,” Long said. “A lot more people joined from last year to this year, so that’s good. I think it’s gotten more technical and harder.”
Ebling, captain of the dance team and color guard, said she has to plan things out and plan what the team is doing for practice with the new coach.
Long says practices are hard because she has to remember everything Putnam has taught her the day before and even learn more that day at practice.
“I think it will be interesting to go to band competition and see how it turns out and the results from last year compared to this year and see how the new coach will benefit us”, Long said.
