The Weight is Almost Over

BV girls soccer uses weightroom to prepare for upcoming season

With Feb. 25, and the start of girls soccer tryouts, approaching fast, the team has started their pre-season workouts in the weight room. Sophomore forward Hailey Palmer uses this time to prepare for the upcoming season.

“I like lifting and putting weight on,” Palmer said. “I think it’s fun to be with everyone and challenge myself.”

Players lift after school from 3:15 to 4 every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

“You go in, and there are four people to a rack, and everyone warms up,” Palmer said. “Then you do the workout that is provided by coach Terrell, and just go through the stations, and rotate and do all the lifts.”

Freshmen are included in these practices, and returning players, such as Palmer, help them adjust to the new activities.

I think it’s exciting that freshmen are coming to weights because we can help them if they do,” Palmer said. “[Coach] Snell has me go up there and show everyone [the lifts], so they will have the correct technique.”

The team started using the weight room as part of in-season training last year and continues to use it to prepare for this year.

“I think [weights help the team] because they work on a lot of strength that a lot of people wouldn’t do outside of the weight room,” Palmer said. “We get stronger, and it also helps with team chemistryworking together.”

Players have the opportunity to challenge themselves and try to be the best they can be.

“It depends on how much weight you put on the bar,” Palmer said. “You can make it hard, but you can also make it easier. On game days, you don’t want to make it really hard.”

All the girls are looking forward to the upcoming season, and are ready to get back on the field.

I’m very excited,” Palmer said. “I think we all are. We’re all starting to prepare for the season, and I think it’ll be a lot of fun and hard work.”
