The End in Sight
Varsity golf prepares for high-stakes tournaments
With the end of the season approaching, the Blue Valley girls’ golf team, led by head coach Andy Millikan, is preparing to go to regionals on Monday, October 14.
The team hopes to perform well enough to return to state where they, last year, finished in 5th place.
Senior Thalia Ramirez is confident about their chances.
“It looks like we have a good chance at getting to state, and, if we do make it, I have a good feeling that we will do really well, because all the girls on the team have been putting in the extra work after practices and on the weekends,” Ramirez said.
Ramirez along with junior Chloe Wood, sophomore Lea Shamblin, and freshmen Kate Tenpenny and Ellie Rydeheard will compete for Blue Valley at regionals and, hopefully, state. Of their five individual scores, the best four will go towards the team’s overall score. Individual awards are also presented.
The girls hope that their season of hard work will pay off.
“As a team, we are hoping we will get 3rd and leave our mark by getting our names up on the gym wall,” Ramirez said.
State will be held on October 22 in Hutchinson.
“It’s crazy to think the 4 seasons went by so fast,” said Ramirez, who, as the only varsity senior, is rounding out her BVHS golf career. “I’m sad it’s coming to an end, but I can’t wait to see where this sport takes me.”
