Recently there has been a rise in younger and younger girls shopping in sephora, which has caused some controversy in social media. Outrage has sparked over the messes the girls leave and call to question whether or not they should be there at all; however, the majority of the girls are there to actually buy products to help their skin. Senior Maxine Baker believes this is a good thing, as you are never too young to start your own skincare journey, especially before it gets too bad.
“My skin would get pretty bad in the wintertime, but then it would get really good in the summertime. And I never really understood why,” Baker said. “But then I realized that I had a broken skin barrier, and I needed to fix it immediately.”
She then looked towards steps she could take to remedy these issues.
“I started to take vitamin D supplements, which actually is very good for your skin, and I used barrier serums, and I changed up my entire skincare routine,” Baker said.
Baker doesn’t just keep these changes to herself but regularly shares her regimen with others.
“I only wash my face with water, because in order to help your skin be healthier, you can’t strip it of its natural oils too much. Right after that, I’ll go in with a hydrating toner and then I’ll go in with the Inua ceramide skin barrier serum,” she said. “It’s perfect, it literally looks like I have Botox when I wear it, and it makes my skin so shiny.”
The biggest piece of advice Baker offers is to not overlook protection of the skin barrier, which can be the most important part of the health of your skin. She finished her routine with a moisturizer with niacinamide and green tea in it since it calms down the redness in her face.
“I think that with good skin comes great responsibility,” she said. “I think that it’s definitely a chore to have to get up in the morning, wash your face, be dead tired and wash your face still. But in my opinion, it really boosts my confidence to see my skin glow from within.”
