On March 22, 2024, Artists Future and Metro Boomin dropped their studio album “We Don’t Trust You.” This album was an instant classic with various features from well-known artists, such as The Weekend, Rick Ross, Playboi Carti, and Travis Scott. But among these artists stood one above the rest. Kendrick Lamar.
Kendrick Lamar’s feature on the song “Like That”, blew up immediately, mainly due to its malicious comments towards Canadian rapper Drake.
It was known that before this album, Drake and Lamar had some unsettled issues with each other. These Issues came to light once Lamar spoke about them
The chaos followed: Drake responded with the track “Pushups”. Kendrick Lamar responds with “Euphoria” and “6:16 in LA”. Drake responds with “Family Matters”. Kendrick Lamar Responds with “Meet the Grahams” and follows with “Not Like Us”. Drake responds with “The Heart Part Six”.
Following Drake’s “The Heart Part Six”, he claimed he would not continue the beef. However, Drake continuing or not, Lamar went on to ensure his total victory over Drake, with the record-breaking success of his most recent track “Not Like Us”.
Not Like Us broke several records, such as the fastest rap song to surpass 100 million streams, the most single-day streams for a rap song in the US, and the most song streams in a week for any rapper.
Due to the success of this track, and widespread favoring of Kendrick Lamar’s side, he is largely considered to have won the beef.
This beef resulted in many outcomes. The obvious realization is that Kendrick Lamar is leagues ahead of the game, that you should never try to challenge the top, and that this is about more than rap. While Drake continues to rap for himself, Kendrick Lamar raps about something greater than any one person.
In the GOAT’s words, “It’s about the culture.”
